Living & Working In Indonesia… Currently adapting to the colorful lifestyle and crazy traffic jam of Jakarta.

How to maximize the battery life of your MacBook Pro?

1. Every time you turn on your MacBook Pro, make sure that its battery is fully charged.

2. During Software Updates installation, keep them running as these updates sometimes improve the life of your MacBook Pro’s battery.

3. Once in a while, discharge the battery of your MacBook Pro – about once a month should be enough. Run it until it shuts down or outs itself to sleep. Then when the battery is already drained, plug the MacBook Pro to recharge.

4. Make sure that you use and store your MacBook Pro under recommended room temperature which is between 50 and 95 degrees Fahrenheit. Anywhere higher or lower than these temperatures might damage not only the battery, but your MacBook Pro, as well.

5. To minimize battery usage, keep the brightness level of your MacBook Pro to a minimum. The brighter the screen is, the more power the battery consumes. Also, turn off the backlight on your keyboard by using the F5 key to minimize power consumption.

6. Turn off the Bluetooth function on your MacBook Pro when you are not using it as it uses a lot of power. To turn off Bluetooth, Open System Preferences, click on Bluetooth, and mark as uncheck the box next to “ON”.

7. Turn off or disable AirPort (Wi-Fi function) when you are not using it. To turn it off, Open System Preferences, click on Network, and click on the Turn AirPort Off button.

8. If you will keep your MacBook Pro plugged in or stored for a long period of time, it is best to remove the battery. In storing the battery, keep it under room temperature and away from heat to prolong its life.

Guess what’s wrong with this photo?

You see people (male) just stand in the open street and take a pee… Honestly, after living 1 year plus in Indonesia (Jakarta), it is not surprising anymore…

He might be dead, but the music is back…

It is not surprise, they did the same thing to Elvis (even until now). So the very minute he laid right flat in the box, the pirates strike asap.. You see MJ music, MTVs everywhere..

Let the picture speak for itself..

Universal Time with Mac and Boot Camp

We had this issue since April 2006, when a user install Boot Camp and boot to Windows, there is a time differences (about 8 hours apart). Even if the user adjusted it, when he/she boot back to Mac, the time will be different again.

I believed it is not new to most of you that Apple and Microsoft handle the time settings differently. Not new because this is not the first time they don’t see eye to eye with one another. There were no better ways, at least until now:

1. Boot to Windows

2. Click “Start” and select “Run”

3. Type : “regedit“  -> it will brings you to your “Registry Editor”

4. Go to “HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE” -> SYSTEM -> CurrentControlSet -> Control ->TimeZoneInformation”

5. Then click “Edit” -> “New” -> and select “DWORD Value”

6. Leave the name as “RealTimeIsUniversal

7. Change the value as “1″

After doing all of above-mentioned steps, reboot, and you should have no problem with time syncing anymore. Please take note that you need to take away the “AutoSync with Internet Time (time.windows.com) when u do this.

Lastly, if you just want a quick shortcut to the whole problem, you can also:

First, boot into your Boot Camp partition. Open up Notepad and copy and paste the following:

@echo off
net time /setsntp:tick.usno.navy.mil
net stop w32time
net start w32time

Save this as a .bat (batch) file. Now find your
saved batch file and drag it into your “Startup” folder in your Start
menu. Now every time you start up Windows, it will fix the time offset
automatically.

Killing 3D Dock

Noticed that not all Mac Users will like the 3D Dock. If you decided to go for 2D instead, try this:

1. Go to Utilities -> Terminal

2. Enter : defaults write com.apple.dock no-glass -boolean YES

3. Enter : killall Dock

You will see your Dock changed from :

into this :

Of course, should you decided to change back to 3D effect, just type in the same script, but this time, change to : defaults write com.apple.dock no-glass -boolean NO
